Importation of Solar Equipment for Domestic or Non-Commercial Use.

EThe Energy Regulation Board (ERB) and Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) hereby notifythepublic of the following changes in procedures for importing solar equipment: To promote the importation of solar equipment, importers are no longer required toget aone-off waiver from ERB to import solar equipment for domestic or non-commercial use.

For reference, in accordance with Regulation 32(2) of the Energy Regulation (General)Regulations, S.I. No. 41 of 2023, “domestic use” means household use or use by a non-profitorganization; while “non-commercial use” means use by a person that does not involve thesaleof renewable energy generating equipment or lubricants and includes own use in commercial farming, subsistence farming or business premises”. Importers are simply required to sign a self-declaration form, declaring among others, that thesolar equipment being imported is not for commercial purposes.

The self-declaration form should be attached to a Customs declaration, that is, on ASYCUDAWorld for declarations above USD2,000 equivalent and to the Customs Declaration Form CE6 for declarations below USD2,000 equivalent. This requirement applies to ALL importations of solar equipment for personal useandbecomes mandatory effective immediately.
